What we've been up to this week!

Posted by Amy Wright on 7th Feb 2024

Hi guys,

I thought I'd share a little about what we've been up to this week inside and out of the shop!

On Monday, Angie and myself ventured to Birmingham NEC for Spring Fair. Spring Fair showcases thousands of new products from an array of brands, and it was the perfect opportunity for us to meet up with a few of our existing suppliers, and hopefully meet new ones. We definitely came away inspired for what we can add next to the business. One of the most exciting parts of my job is to introduce new brands and products to the shop and to see them sell!

In our absence, Alex and Mitch were visited by author of 'The Silent Patient' Alex Michaelides. Alex popped in to sign copies of his brand new book 'The Fury'. I was really sorry to miss him as I really enjoyed 'The Silent Patient', it's perfect for anyone who likes a pacy, twisty, thriller. His new book, 'The Fury' sounds just as good:

'One of us was a murderer . . .'On a small private Greek island, former movie star Lana Farrar - an old friend - invites a select group of us to stay.

It'll be hot, sunny, perfect. A chance to relax and reconnect - and maybe for a few hidden truths to come out. Because nothing on this island is quite what it seems.

Not Lana. Not her guests. Certainly not the murderer - furiously plotting their crime .

. . But who am I?My name is Elliot Chase, and I'm going to tell you a story unlike any you've ever heard.'

We have signed copies available now!

And today, (Wednesday) we were visited by two more authors! First of all the super lovely Freya North called into see us and signed copies of her brand new book 'The Unfinished Business of Eadie Browne'. Freya dropped off a proof copy of this book to us last year which both Mitch and Angie read and loved. It really took Mitch back to his days at university in Manchester, where Freya herself was at the same time! They both were able to reminisce about places they used to go and uni times in general. Ange loved the writing of the book, and was really invested in Eadie Brown's life and loved the little surprises and twists. We have signed books available now.

Last but not least, we met the wonderful Tracy King, author of 'Learning to Think,' who was on a tour of bookshops dropping in proof copies of her book, which I will be adding straight to my 'tbr' pile. Tracy said the book starts with an exorcism (hers), and ends with a murder mystery (her father's). We discussed the importance of books in people's lives, particularly children's, and about how she had left school aged 12 and the only way she could educate herself was through reading the books they had at home. There are already quotes from Tim Minchin and Adam Kay about the book and I for one cannot wait to read it. It is published on 7th March to coincide with World Book Day and International Women's Day.

Do comment below if you like the sound of any of these books, or if there's anything more you'd like to see in blog posts from us!
